New Delhi, Sept 30: Adding to the festive ambience ahead of the upcoming Durga Puja and Dussehra, a two week-long exhibition to showcase an array of beautiful and exclusive handloom and handicrafts creations of master weavers and craftsmen of rural Bengal was held in the national capital recently.
The 4th Edition of the ‘Bengal Pre-Puja Exposition’, organized by the Office of the Resident Commissioner, Government of West Bengal, from 16th to 30th September, 2015, was formally inaugurated at Dilli Haat, INA, in the gracious presence of Shri R. D. Meena, Principal Resident Commissioner and other senior officials of the Government of West Bengal.
Around 50 artisans from various districts of West Bengal took part in the exposition which was aimed at promoting the rich and glorious tradition of Bengal handicrafts and handloom and also ensuring commercial benefits to the craftspersons before the festive season. The fair recorded sale figures of around Rs. 13 lakh.
Special cultural soirees were organized during the fair at Dilli Haat on 19th and 26th September, with Bengali songs, Purulia Chhau dance and Rabha folk dance of North Bengal bringing out the rhythm and tunes of Bengal.
