Rabindranath Tagore ( 7th May 1861- 7th August 1941), also called “Gurudev” or “Kaviguru”, was a Bengali poet, novelist, musician, painter, playright, social reformer and thinker who reshaped Bengali literature and music. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1913, the first Asian to receive the honour.
Kazi Nazrul Islam ( 25th May 1899- 29th August 1976) was a Bengali poet and musician. He was also known as ‘bidrohi kabi’ (rebel poet) for his works espousing resistance against all kinds of oppression.
The birthday celebration programmes are organised to pay homage to the two great poets of Bengal.
