Uttam Kumar (3rd September 1926-24th July 1980) is considered as one of the greatest actors of popular Bengali cinema. Born as Arun Kumar Chatterjee in 1926, he is fondly called ‘Mahanayak’ (the great hero) in Bengal. The versatile actor mesmerised generations of Bengali film lovers with his looks, acting and style. Uttam Kumar also had stints as director, producer, singer and music director.
Retrospective of films of Uttam Kumar had been organized by the WBICC quite a few times in recent years.
